The building friction pendulum isolation bearings rely on prolonging the structural period and providing a relatively high damping ratio of the isolation layer to reduce the seismic effect.
The friction pendulum seismic isolation bearings consist of the upper and lower connecting plates with spherical surfaces and the internal spherical crown slider. The superstructure is supported on the slider by the upper connecting plate. When an earthquake occurs, the horizontal force of the superstructure overcomes the friction between the spherical sliding surface and the slider, and will perform a pendulum-like motion with the spherical center distance as the pendulum length. The seismic energy is dissipated in the form of heat generated by friction.
